What kind of painting is it ?

This paint is called tempera. It comes from Europe, where it was used for frescoes and illuminations, particularly before the invention of oil paint. It then travelled along the Silk Roads to Central Asia, where it is used for Koranic paintings in particular.

The brand used here is a Russian professional brand that is used in Central Asia.

The paper is rice paper that has been cooked and then gilded, handmade in China.

I love the mix of all thoose inspirations and materials.

A quick word about me!

I am a French artist. In my country, I have published books for adults, teenagers and children as an author and exhibited my paintings in two galleries in the south of France. I have been in Phuket for two years and am very happy to be able to offer some paintings here!

For maintenance.

Tempera is a durable paint. It was designed to be used on walls and to decorate the pages of books. So there's no need to worry. It doesn't normally need to be protected by glass in a frame. The painting is also varnished, including the white square border if any. So everything is protected. You can wipe it with a soft cloth from time to time, without pressing too hard, to prevent dust from sticking.

Fivers options for framing

- Just hang it like this

- Go to a framer to use the wooden board as a backing and just add small, thin light-coloured wooden strips to the sides to protect them and the corners in the long term.

- Buy a frame without glass that matches the dimensions

- Buy a frame with glass, but I recommend non-reflective glass if you choose this option.

- You can also opt for a larger frame to leave a little space around the composition.

In any case, choose a light, clear frame.

Avoid direct sunlight for hours on end, as this may cause the white part of the paper to yellow and potentially cause the paint to crack over time, even though tempera is a fairly elastic paint.
